BEHIND THE IDEA

INSPIRATION

The first collection's two models, Hana 花 and Yume 夢, are inspired by the form and weight of the authentic kimono. We wished to create designs which could exhibit the material in its free form which in our eyes is free, unbound and light compared to the stiff and straight shape that the authentic kimono is worn in.

YUME

Yume 夢 is a long kimono which can be worn as a dress, robe or coat. It is created from a combination of two vintage kimonos and has a hand-dyed silk collar which also is recuperated from the vintage kimono. Yume is finished with a beautiful silk inner lining which adds a luxurious touch and feel. Yume is the Japanese word for dream. The flowing and shiny material portraits the feel of floating through the clouds, making you feel as light as a feather.

HANA

Hana 花 is a mini dress with long silk strips which makes it a very versatile dress. We wanted to highlight the hand-dyed silk strips as they usually are hidden away on the inside of the authentic kimono. Inside the pockets of the Hana dress are small loops which allow you the tie up the strips in various ways. Hana is the Japanese word for flower. The dress is playful and young which reminds me of Spring and the flower blossoms in Japan. Spring in Japan is one of the most lively times where people come out and celebrate the flowers. The Hana dress embodies that energy and sense of happiness.
